Data scientist, author and Academic Rep at the University of Bath

I'm doing an MSc in Data Science at Bath and building AI that helps people through cancer care. I write code, I write stories, and I care most about the place where those meet real people.

The voice of my cohort

Academic Rep, MSc Data Science, University of Bath

At Bath, academic reps are the official link between students and their department, and it's a role the university takes seriously. I was chosen to represent the MSc Data Science cohort for 2026 to 2027.

In practice that means listening to what my coursemates need, bringing it to the Student Staff Liaison Committee, and working with staff to fix things while we're still on the course to benefit.

  • Counting towardsMy Bath Award for leadership and communication

And now a Student Ambassador too. In October 2026 the University of Bath took me on as a Student Ambassador for the year, helping future students get to know Bath.

About

I've always lived in two worlds, so you can read me either way.

I'm Ruman Sidhu. I write code, I write stories, and sometimes I write emails that take way too long because tone matters.

I studied Electronics and Communication Engineering in Chandigarh, then did the first year of an MS in Data Science at Seattle University, finishing with a 3.90 GPA and a place on the Dean's Honor Roll.

Then I made a big call. I want to build my career in the UK, where the NHS and some of the world's best health research sit right at the centre of what I care about. So with my mentor's encouragement, I moved to the University of Bath in September 2026 for its MSc in Data Science, a top-ranked programme in a country where I can see my future.

Along the way I've built machine learning models, published a novella, co-authored an anthology, edited two newsletters for two years, closed software deals, given talks on AI in healthcare and hosted more stages than I can count. I have a habit of raising my hand for things that sound interesting before fully thinking them through. It has worked out so far.

The long game is bringing AI into healthcare in ways that actually help people. It's why I spent a semester inside The Cancer Genome Atlas, and why I'm building Northlight, for children with cancer and the families around them. I'm mentored by Gurpreet Singh Sunny, CEO of Roundglass, who has backed my studies from the start.

When I'm not debugging or drafting, I'm probably anchoring an event, exploring Bath, or having a very passionate conversation about something oddly specific.
